"Why always just wait for the big energy companies to get the energy transition here too?" The municipal council of Sörup already dealt with this question in 2016 and, after intensive discussions, came to the conclusion: What the big ones can do, we can do too! The idea: The local energy producers (3 wind energy generators and a biogas plant) first sell the electricity produced on site on the electricity exchange and then buy it back directly so that the citizens of the municipality and the surrounding area actually consume the electricity produced on site can.
For this purpose, the "Gemeindwerk Sörup" was founded, in which the municipality has a 61 percent stake and the local energy producers have a 39 percent stake. The municipal utility in Sörup acts like a virtual power plant and bundles all competencies and the organization of this energy concept, which is unique in Germany, under one roof. At a shareholders' meeting, the management and advisory board were determined:
Jürgen Jordt and Dirk Christiansen act as managing directors.
The Advisory Board includes the Söruper Bürger Peer Gabriel, Matthias Diederichsen and Thomas Jensen.
The municipal utility in Sörup officially started work at the end of 2018.
