Electricity price brake

Electricity price brake 2023

Hello dear electricity customers,

With the electricity price brake, the Federal Government has decided to relieve electricity consumers of the sharp rise in electricity prices over the past year. Unfortunately, after long and tough negotiations, the law was passed very late. We are now working with all our might to develop the necessary software solution. Unfortunately, this is not yet sufficiently available. Since we want to inform our customers to this day about how the relief looks like and how it will be implemented, you will receive information about the basics, previous adjustments and further implementations.

The relief applies to all electricity customers. However, the discharge procedure differs in the amount of your annual consumption. Customers with an annual consumption of up to 30,000 kWh (in 2022) will receive a cap on their electricity price for 80% of this annual consumption from 2022 to 40 ct/kWh gross. This affects almost all household and small business customers. For all "large" customers with an annual consumption of more than 30,000 kWh, the brake on the net energy price is applied. This means that all duties, levies and taxes are added to the energy price. This net energy price is set at 13 ct/kWh for 70% of your 2021 consumption. Each customer has their own credit quota based on their historical consumption.

If this personal relief quota is used up, the full electricity price be paid. If the electricity consumption is reduced this year, the quota will affect more than 80%, with increased consumption the percentage will decrease.

Example: A household customer with an annual consumption of 2,000 kWh according to the bill for 2022: The customer receives a credit quota of 1,600 kWh for a electricity price from 40 ct/kWh gross. The full price must be paid for 400 kWh. If only 1600 kWh of electricity is consumed in 2023, the full 1600 kWh will be billed at the maximum capped price; if 2200 kWh are consumed, only 1600 kWh will be capped. Saving electricity is paying off this year.

We will inform you as soon as possible about the amount of your individual relief quota. Until then, you can determine this relatively easily yourself. All you need is the annual statement for 2022 and calculate 80% of the annual consumption.

So that the relief does not only become noticeable next year with the final bill for 2023, we will reduce all discounts for household and commercial customers accordingly. Unfortunately, the relief measures on the electricity price brake and the omission of the EEG- Allocations delayed the 2022 year-end statement, so that two monthly deductions (February and March 2023) could not be collected and added to the remaining 10 deductions (i.e. these increase). Once all the final settlements are done, we will reduce the following April haircut 4x more than the May - December haircuts to balance the months of January - March. As before, deductions can also be adjusted by the customer via our portal or manually by e-mail.

In the case of large customers over 30,000 kWh/a with a monthly discount, the billing and discount adjustment is carried out in the same way as for small customers, see above. For large customers (RLM) with monthly billing of the measured values, the energy price (if exceeded) is capped at 13 ct/kWh for 70% of consumption.

On our own behalf: Please wait for us to implement and reduce the deduction according to the annual accounts before you adjust the deduction manually, as our adjustment would overwrite yours. We endeavor to carry out all relief, quotas and adjustments correctly and in a timely manner. Please understand that this can lead to problems in individual cases, which we will then rectify as quickly as possible upon request.

Please let us know if you are unable to pay the deductions and need urgent relief. The electricity price brake was created precisely for this purpose, so that nobody can no longer afford their electricity.

We hope to continue to be available to you with advice and cheap electricity. You can still see the current price development under www.gemeindewerk-soerup.de/preisentwicklung .
